Many professing Christians believe this nation is on the path to blessing this year. Passions are kindled for its outpouring in November. For proud patriots, prosperity and constitutional rights are deemed worthy causes to gather, cheer and wave signs, and with old veterans and new-generation armies flocking, many are serious. They’ll die on this hill for their children and grandchildren, equating their potential martyr status as a Christ-like sacrifice for freedom.
Of course, when it comes to a nation built on a foundation of freedom, society walks in the blessings of those in history who died for this noble cause. However, even with hotspots of Christianity blazing in its midst, a nation built on freedom is not automatically a nation God loves.
His Word states that God loves righteousness and justice and prefers mercy over sacrifice. He commands us to love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul and to love our neighbors as ourselves. The Lord is patient and kind. He is a God of grace, love and forgiveness. All His ways are just. This can all seem easy to believe and easy to do until His discipline, justice and sovereign will come reigning close to home testing our own pride, our own submission and our own surrender.
Although God is perfect light and love, He is also a consuming fire to be feared, not a God who desires to endure testing from His own creation. When His anger gets kindled, nations who continually turn against the ways of the Lord do not get pity. They do not get an exception. They get what they are asking for: paths of destruction and a divorce from their Maker.
This is what many professing Christians are earnestly trying to prevent. They see the writing on the wall, but instead of turning toward God and His commandments, they have turned toward the masses, the ways of the world, and toward their own hearts, hoping that intentions and sacrifice for a nation will be enough. Surely compromise will be better than another step in the wrong direction,
except that God is a jealous God; He’s not interested in compromise. Compromising to work with or redefine evil is faithless and idolatrous. It puts worldly concepts, fears and feelings over God’s commandments while discretely leading societies away from His truth.
Fighting for a free nation sounds honorable. It sounds humble. It sounds noble. It sounds brave, but God doesn’t wear rose-colored glasses. He sees everything we do and everything we ignore. He sees the selfless freedom sacrifices to ignite future generations, but he also hears the silent screams of injustice that destroy them. The omniscient Creator won’t be fooled by evil schemes masquerading as feelgood labels and lukewarm policies.
Current solutions to regulate and add exceptions to what God hates in order to take advantage of opportunities and popular votes may seem feasible and clever, but they only reveal the proficient craftiness of the enemy. Previously, such solutions may have passed the cognitive radar, but society is at a turning point. No smoke and mirrors can continue to cover up such barbaric crimes.
Any justifiable claim of ignorance is long gone, a thing of the past. The truth has been exposed through God’s Word, His Spirit, and even outsourced through the airwaves. To continue to adamantly deny what is widely known through the realms of basic biology and the exposures of the abortion industry would be nothing short of foolery.
The truth is that we don’t live in a nation striving toward righteousness. We live in a rebellious nation, a cowardly nation, a hypocritical nation, and an unjust nation. A nation full of deceitful propaganda, innocent bloodshed, and bondage.
The truth is that many Christ-professing people would willingly and zealously give their lives for social justice agendas, for the second amendment, for this nation, but not for the nation’s preborn children.
When it’s legal to murder children in the womb, the most basic human right to life is stripped from the most innocent and vulnerable among us – the very people God commands us to rescue, love, and protect.
Where is their freedom?
Rallying behind compromising political candidates while not actively fighting for life in the womb is suggesting that this nation is worth saving, yet its children are not. Getting behind a vigorous fight to save a nation that sheds innocent blood is not sacrificing like Christ. It’s betraying Him. It’s not dying for the freedom to live, but for the freedom to kill.
Any nation claiming to know God that remains dead-set on the freedom to kill is a nation that should be on death row preparing to breathe its last breath. According to God, a murderous nation like that is not worth saving.
At this juncture, refusing to stand, fight, and speak for the preborn who will be brutally slaughtered in the womb will be nothing less than begging the Lord God for His wrathful curse and rod of just judgment.
The preborn will pay the cost of this unwillingness with their lives.
It’s time to stop begging for blessing and start obeying the God who holds it. A blessed nation will not be full of rallies, popularity contests, and media appearances, but one full of God’s people crying out on their knees, weeping in repentance for the unchecked bloodshed on their watch, and for the undying dedication to a nation while indifferent apathy left its children dying in their wake.
“But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’ But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward…Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you. And you shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, and did not accept discipline; truth has perished; it is cut off from their lips.
Cut off your hair and cast it away;
raise a lamentation on the bare heights,
for the Lord has rejected and forsaken
the generation of his wrath.’”
Jeremiah 7:23-29

Jeremiah 7:5-7
