God’s Word is crystal clear on shedding innocent blood, unequal weights and measures, serving other gods, demonic sacrifice, rescuing the weak and needy, delivering the vulnerable from the wicked, and bringing justice to the fatherless.
It is clear regarding God’s blessing on nations who obey Him and His judgment on nations who won’t repent from evil and follow His ways. A refusal to criminalize abortion is a refusal to obey God’s Word and a refusal to heal a nation.
Criminalization is not a popular subject, but there’s no justice for children in the womb without consequences for those involved in killing them. Is it fun to advocate for it? Of course not. It’s costly. It’s hard, but the God we serve laid down His life, not for the righteous, but for criminals. He took flogging, beatings, and hung on a cross for crimes He didn’t commit.
He died for crimes we committed.
Every time you refuse to fight for consequences for perpetrators, you are stealing the gospel from them to selfishly protect yourself and your own comfort. There are many reasons people may do this. Maybe you don’t want to upset struggling people. Maybe you don’t want to feel guilty for getting away with it, for taking an option away from someone else that you took advantage of.
The truth is, I have spent seasons wrestling with God over these very things. I’m a survivor of life’s most vile wicked experiences, some inflicted onto me and some of my own doing. Pro-life friends, fighting for criminalization hurts deeply. It may appear tough on the outside, but it’s an intense spiritual battle. It’s a life of self-denial and fighting dark forces. It’s a life of weeping for lost lives, lost souls, broken generational trauma, and a world of damage.
God is the omniscient one. I don’t carry even a sliver of His wisdom, but His Word is true. There’s one thing I know: fighting for criminalization is right. It’s right even though some got away with it. It’s right even though it can’t completely stop it. It’s right even though it hurts. It’s right even when it upsets a stampede of people. It’s right even when it offends an entire generation and the world. It’s right for the abused, the abandoned, the enslaved, and the scarred. It’s right without exception. It’s the right thing to do.
Fighting to protect people from themselves was never meant to be easy or comfortable. Refusing what a child wants doesn’t bring smiles and warm hugs; it often brings resistance and screaming, but the battle is not about what is lost in the moment, but where the broken chains will lead.
Fighting for justice was never meant to be beautiful. It only regulates brokenness and fleshly sin that reign in the darkness of a fallen world.
The death of the Rescuer and Justifier wasn’t beautiful. It was painstakingly gory and brutal. God’s love doesn’t come with palatable messages, soft comfortable delicacies, and things considered beautiful to the world. It often comes wrapped in the mystery of blood, sweat, tears, suffering and sacrifice. It often costs lives, but the death and damage from the ashes is only kindling for the future fire.
The type of fire can go one of two ways: either chaotic destruction or purposeful redemption. If the nation continues to prioritize self-reliance and stubbornness, the wildfire will create a barrier from freedom and consume it’s resources. If the nation zealously repents, beauty will be born through the healing and transformation catalyzed by the majestic power of the resurrection. The long grueling fight for freedom will lead to a generation of survivors with eternal flames burning through the night.
A nation claiming to exist under the Savior’s kingship while remaining apathetic to the sins He hates will only kindle His anger, not be showered in His blessing. God holds the power to recreate identities and transform minds and souls. He can take the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh, but a nation won’t get to the beauty until it’s willing to die in the ashes of its depravity and rebellion. Avoiding the fire of change may avoid the burning, but it will leave the nation stained in the curse of sin and miss out on the gold.
A nation that justifies shedding innocent blood by alleviating consequences is a nation that chooses rebellion over repentance, self over sacrifice, destruction over deliverance, and temporary flesh over eternal freedom. It is a nation that mocks the Creator and rejects His gospel.
It is not a nation under God but a nation yet to be reborn.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and JUSTICE FOR ALL.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. – Proverbs 14:34
Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil. – Ecclesiastes 8:11
The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he. – Deuteronomy 32:4
The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. – Acts 17:30
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14
Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. – Isaiah 1:16-20
For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever. – Jeremiah 7:5-7
Unequal weights are an abomination to the Lord, and false scales are not good. – Proverbs 20:23
You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord. – Leviticus 18:21
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil. – Isaiah 5:20
Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely. – Proverbs 28:5
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. – Psalm 82:4
Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. – Proverbs 24:11
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. – Ephesians 5:11-12
