The post-abortive life is a dark place. It brings sorrow, demonic battles, and much hardship for a variety of reasons. It can take years, sometimes decades, to heal. The process can seem long and grueling. There are times full of much devastation and despair. It is extremely hard to heal from, but if you walk the path of truth with Christ, the miracle does happen. There eventually comes a day when it will no longer take up your thought life. That pit of anguish sitting heavy and deep in your gut will dissipate. The storm clouds will clear and you won’t cry about it anymore.
Healing from abortion may seem like an unreachable dream, but with Christ, all things are possible according to His will. It is His will that you heal from the bondage of sin that He died on the cross to take from you.
Not only that, when you humble yourself under His mighty hand, He will do far more than anything you can ask or think. He will discipline you and teach you, but He will also protect you and fight for you. He will comfort you, encourage you, love you, mold you, equip you, and establish you.
God is the eternal Healer. His promises are real and true. They are not just for others who didn’t do what you did. They are for you too, wholly and completely without exception.
His wonderful works are innumerable and unmatched. He’s greater than the universe and exists outside the span of time. Yet, when you surrender and cry out for healing, there He comes to where He’s always been – right at your door. Jesus already carries the blessings of your healing. All you have to do is ask (believing He is who He says He is and that He rewards those who seek Him) and pine after His Word with all your heart.
When I think about abortion now, I sense the deep longing and conviction in the Holy Spirit to discern the magnitude of the global battle, but it’s no longer personal. I don’t shed tears the Savior already wiped clean. I don’t sit in shame He already shamed on the cross. I don’t hang my head. I think of my God who became a curse to take the curse from me and I hold my head high like a chosen forgiven delivered redeemed servant of the Lord.
The sin of abortion and the post-abortive life are dark, but through the miracle of healing comes the realization that through Christ even darkness is a gift. It may be hard to fathom right now, but eventually, the presents of devastation, regret, and turmoil drowning you in waves of shame will become only transformed memories, like bubbles glistening in the overflowing cup of restoration that display and enlighten the effervescence of His presence.
Unraveling the act of shedding innocent blood comes with many layers of storms, but the darkness of abortion only magnifies the powerful saving work of Christ’s death and resurrection. The One who died for your sin calls you to believe in His mercy and boldly access His throne of abounding grace. There is no sin too rebellious for Him to forgive. There is no evil act that can resist His powerful redemption. Your entire debt has already been paid. The full victory has already been won. All that’s left is the decision to take a hold of it.
Right at this moment, His healing patiently sits like a gift with your name on it waiting to be opened. He waits for you, His precious child, to leave yourself behind, pick up your cross, and courageously choose to unwrap the past you so secretly tucked away. He patiently waits for you to open your box of darkness, exposing and surrendering your deepest wounds, so they can be emptied of death, washed with deliverance, and filled with His glorious light.
But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Ephesians 5:13-14
Though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 1:13-14
Some were fools through their sinful ways, and because of their iniquities suffered affliction; they loathed any kind of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.
Psalm 107:17-20
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
1 John 5:14-15
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6
For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.
Hebrews 12:10-13
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 5:6-11
◇◇ Prayer for Spiritual Strength ◇◇
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14-21
