I believe God’s Word, but I don’t call myself an abolitionist. The Pro-Life movements and abolitionist movements are much like political parties. They’re both doing something right and something wrong according to the Bible.
The Pro-Life movement rejects God’s justice while the abolitionist movement rejects God’s grace and love. With this, many churches actively supporting the Pro-Life movement compromise the gospel by calling cowardice grace and rejecting justice. Many churches actively supporting the abolitionist movement compromise the gospel by being so caught up in finding faults that they discourage, abandon and discard people who need love and grace.
It’s possible to know the whole Bible, run ministries, and still be lacking. Justice is important. Love and grace are important. Caring for the flock is important. Following Christ is the most important path in life. Representing and proclaiming His gospel is the true mission of the saints.
The father of lies is the king of counterfeits using God’s name to steal, kill, and destroy. The Father of Truth is the King of Kings who commands us not to join them.
God’s people are not united by movements, but are united in Christ. I love everyone involved in the call to end abortion, but compromising the gospel and His Word is not worth any label in this world.
He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord. – Proverbs 17:15
My son, fear the Lord and the king, and do not join with those who do otherwise, for disaster will arise suddenly from them, and who knows the ruin that will come from them both? – Proverbs 24:21-22
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. – Colossians 2:8
Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice; correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. – Isaiah 1:16-17
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. – James 1:27
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:2-3
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. – 1 John 4:16-17
