This world can seem so dark at times that it becomes difficult to focus on anything else. As we walk peering down into it, the darkness can be overconsuming, but every single step gives rise to a gift. No one would even know darkness without having experienced the light.
The darkness tries to stand on its own, but every shadow brings with it the reality of the Son. Every evil intention reveals the truth of depravity in need of His gospel. Everything done to disprove the Creator only makes Him more real. Every deed done to defy Him only proves that He’s on the throne.
Everything done to minimize the Creator only makes Him more famous. The presence of darkness and futility only magnifies His resurrecting power.
For those who reject Him in this life, failures in this life will only bring more bondage and afflictions in this life will only bring more purposeless suffering. When the walk toward evil ends, the bridge to reconciliation will burn as death brings separation from Him into greater depths of darkness,
but for those who are His, perceived failures in this life only become a testimony of His deliverance and redemption. Afflictions in this life intended to derail and hinder them only become a testimony of His strength and endurance. The evil set out to end them only becomes an everlasting victory story.
This transient life moves forward. There are no do-overs and no more rehearsals after the final curtain. Nothing can change history or bring people back in this life. What’s done is done.
Likewise, nothing in this perishing world can undo what has already been done on the cross. Nothing can stop the freedom of salvation. Not even the darkness of death can defeat souls already consumed by the inextinguishable light of the Savior.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5
