The Gift of Not being Good Enough

Do you believe you’re not good enough for heaven? It’s easy to believe that when we sin and fall short or when we have secret sin that we may never tell anyone, but my friend, God knows. He’s omniscient. He also created you. He knew who you would be. He knew what you would do. He knew this day would come.

He knew it all, but He still made you. He knitted you together intricately, fearfully and wonderfully and gave you life as a gift from Himself to a fallen world. Then He gave His life for you. He was beaten and flogged for you. He shed His blood for you. He paid the price for your sin.

He wants you to know that you’re not good enough. Your sin is too much. You can’t afford the cost of admission. A perfect heaven won’t allow any tarnished souls to pass through its gates,

but you, my friend, are almost there.

God has given you grace. He has opened your heart to consider your depravity before a perfect Savior. He has broken through your worldly desires and your justifications for living like your only option is hell-bound,

so don’t turn away now. Don’t follow your flesh that craves escapes and habits that do nothing but sabotage you. Don’t let the devil steal the surrender and glory that he willingly gave up for the pride that leads to the pit. You’ve been following that liar your whole life and what fruit has it gotten you? That fruit at first tasted sweet, but since has grown rotten and sour.

The hourglass of time is slipping away. The Creator’s mercy lives in every breath and heartbeat. Don’t fade into eternity without the gift that was already given. Don’t reject the Savior who loved you before the foundation of the world, before you were even born. You don’t have to be who you’ve been. You don’t have to tread the same roads with the same people. You can turn away from yourself and from the world full of sin, lies, and corruption and believe that deliverance and redemption could be real. The Messiah could be real.

You can ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Your sin wasn’t too much for Him to forgive. Just ask Him, friend, to rescue you from the depths of darkness you’ve always known and fill you with His love, truth, peace, and light.

The domain of darkness will still exist, but it will no longer be yours. Sin and death will no longer have dominion over you because He defeated it on the cross.

He wants you to know you’re not good enough for heaven, so you will seek salvation from the perfect One who is.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. – Ephesians 2:1-9

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:20-23

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:13-14
